Celebrate National Relaxation Day…No More Excuses!

Welcome back! The weather is lovely and my house plants are flourishing like never before! But sunshine is not the only thing August brings us. The 15th is National Relaxation Day, sounds like an easy one right? You would be surprised how hard it is to actually relax in today’s on-the-go culture. We’ll give you a few tips on how to be intentional about stress relief.

Relaxing 101

Relaxation is one of life’s personal states. Everyone’s idea of relaxation is different. It can be a classic image of minimal activity in a calm and quiet state; meditation, a nap, spa day, or hanging in a hammock. Relaxation day is a wonderful day to treat yourself to. Give yourself a break, and spend it re-charging and re-energizing yourself! Ahhhhh…You are using your mind to transport yourself to a different place. Both our minds and our bodies need time to rest. Create a quiet space where you can do what you wish. Calm your mind with deep breathing. Visualize a safe place. When we feel safe our minds can wander. In wandering, our minds are open to new ideas, images, or even memories of wonderful moments in our lives. This is a form of true re-creation.

Take the time and use this day to help reduce your stress and improve your life!

When Life Hands You Lemons, Make Lemonade!

Many medical experts have defined stress as a “nonspecific response of the body to a demand.” A major challenge in today’s stress-filled world is to make the stress in your life work for you, instead of against you. What happens to your body when it’s under stress? The brain signals the release of stress hormones. These chemical substances trigger a series of responses that give the body a “fight or flight” reaction – this is not good….

  • Blood-sugar levels rise
  • Heartbeat speeds up
  • Blood pressure increases
  • Muscles tense for action

Some stress we have control over, some we don’t. Here are some tips for juggling it all and moving to a STRESS -LESS life.
