What Exactly is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is based on a simple premise that our body is a self-healing, self-regulating organism controlled by the brain, spinal cord and nerves. The 24 bones of the spine, or vertebrae, surround and protect the spinal cord and nerves. When misaligned, or subluxated, the vertebrae can interfere with the nerve system and the communication of the brain and the rest of the body, causing aberrant function of our body.
At Body Elements Chiropractic, our objective is to analyze the spine, locate and correct these vertebral subluxations. We correct specific adjustments of the spine, which are intended to correct vertebral subluxations over time. This allows the natural healing abilities of the body to work at maximum efficiency.
What is an adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is a carefully directed and controlled pressure applied to a spinal joint that is subluxated, or not moving properly. The chiropractic adjustment removes subluxations and restores motion to the joints, helping the bones of the spine gradually return to a more normal position and motion. With improved position and motion, there is decreased interference with the nervous system, increased communication within the body, and improved overall balance. Some adjustments may require a quick movement, and others involve slow and constant pressure. After a thorough examination, we determine which technique will work best for you.
What is a subluxation?
A subluxation is a nerve disturbance effecting how the brain gets and sends messages from and to ever single organ, tissue, cell, muscle, joint, ligament, etc in the body.
Do I need chiropractic even if I am not in pain or sick?
While over the years chiropractic has been most associated with back pain and injury, chiropractors are technically nervous system doctors. Because the nerve system runs down the spine, this is our main area of concern. See “What exactly is chiropractic?” for more information.
Does chiropractic hurt?
Under normal circumstances, adjustments don’t hurt. The patient may experience a minor amount of discomfort during the adjustment, which lasts only seconds. The only known side effect is mild soreness the next day. This is much like the soreness you would feel after a rigorous workout.
How can chiropractic help children?
Chiropractic is proven to help make children and adults alike have more energy and a better immune system. This allows their nerve and immune system to function at its best keeping children healthy and free from any prescription drugs!
Visiting Body Elements
Do you adjust on the first visit?
Your first visit is dedicated to going over your health history and performing initial examinations. Typically you will not be adjusted on your first visit unless it is found necessary for your condition. Otherwise, you will be adjusted once you receive your report of finding and are an accepted candidate for care.
What should I expect after my first adjustment?
You may feel more awake as your brain has more blood flow and your vision may be sharper. That is why children under chiropractic care have increased attention span, and improved concentration and performance in school.
Many people feel a change in their symptoms after their first adjustment: less pain, more movement, greater ease, better sleep, improved digestion, easier breathing, greater strength, improved relaxation, a lifting fo depression and other signs of health restoration.
